Swansea City are reportedly ready to make a bid for Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

According to The Mirror, Swansea City are prepared to offer £15million to sign Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic in January – but Rafael Benitez wants him to stay at St. James’ Park.

The Swans lost 3-0 at Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon as they remain second bottom of the Premier League table, three points adrift of safety.

Summer signings Borja Baston and Fernando Llorente have yet to really impress on a consistent basis in attack, and that may mean that manager Bob Bradley looks to sign a new centre forward in January.

Now, The Mirror report that Swansea are now ready to offer £15million to sign Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic – but their attempts to land him look like being fruitless.

Mitrovic, 22, joined Newcastle from Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 having hit 44 goals in 90 games for the Belgian side, and whilst he had some disciplinary issues last season, he did score nine goals in his debut Premier League season.

This term, the Serbian international has had to make do with being backup to Dwight Gayle, starting just four Championship games – but he has notched three goals and two assists in limited playing time.

Now, Swansea seemingly want to give Mitrovic first-team football in South Wales, but the report claims that Newcastle will swiftly reject Swansea’s £15million offer for the burly centre forward as manager Rafael Benitez wants to keep him.

Newcastle are focusing on promotion back to the Premier League, and whilst he hasn’t started many games this season, it’s claimed that the Magpies want to keep hold of Mitrovic to aid their promotion push, whilst he certainly has potential to be a key player in the future.
