Swansea City were hoping to land Nacer Chadli from Tottenham Hotspur a year ago and will return with another attempt this summer.

12 months ago, with Tottenham Hotspur making clear that he could leave the club, Nacer Chadli was attracting plenty of attention – not least from Swansea City.

According to The Mirror, The Swans were hoping to take the Belgian international to South Wales, only to baulk at Spurs’ hefty price tag. A year on, however, it appears that Paul Clement’s side may be more willing to pay big for Chadli.

The Mirror now reports that they are pondering a £15 million bid for the 27-year-old, who joined West Brom last summer for a similar fee.

Speculation has intensified recently that Chadli could be on his way out of The Hawthorns after a reported bust-up with manager Tony Pulis over the club’s pre-season training schedule. However, the old-school gaffer told the Express and Star on Wednesday that he had no interest in letting the former FC Twente attacker depart.

“Hopefully he will stay with us, he’s a top player, and we want him to stay. We’re looking for players to add to the squad, not take away from it,” Pulis said.

Therefore, Swansea clearly face a difficult challenge in their attempt to finally bring Chadli to the Liberty Stadium. Yet, The Mirror’s claims that they would be willing to match the club-record £15 million fee they paid for Atletico Madrid striker Borja Baston last summer shows they mean business.

The report adds that Swansea see Chadli as a potential replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Icelandic playmaker who has been heavily linked with Everton and Leicester City in recent weeks.

The Guardian reports that Swansea have placed a £50 million price tag on their talisman’s head to ward off potential suitors but it would be no surprise if Sigurdsson was posing for photos at Goodison Park before the end of this month.
