Bristol City midifelder Josh Brownhill is on the radar of Swansea City, Bournemouth, Burnley and Brighton after a fine season at Ashton Gate.
Josh Brownhill may have produced just a single goal and assist apiece in his debut season at Bristol City but his impact goes far beyond bare statistics.
Standing out in a struggling Robins’ side, the 21-year-old was arguably one of the most impressive midfielders in the Championship last season. As such, his performances have not gone unnoticed with the Bristol Post reporting that as many as four Premier League clubs are plotting a summer move.
The newspaper claims that both Swansea City and Burnley are interested after making initial enquiries last summer while Bournemouth and newly-promoted Brighton may also throw their hat into the ring.
Flying The Robin’s nest?
However, the all-action, all-rounder appears to be an excellent fit for Paul Clement’s Swansea City side. The South Welsh club secured their Premier League survival at Hull City’s expense this weekend, with the manager successfully blending the club’s typical short passing philosophy with power and physicality.
And Brownhill embodies both styles with ease. The Bristol City youngster, who signed from Preston North End last summer, is an excellent technician, blessed with impressive passing ability and accurate deliveries from wider roles.
However, he is also a prodigiously hard worker with the strength and positional sense to contribute as much in his own half as the opposition’s.
Therefore, you could imagine Brownhill forcing an impressive partnership with Tom Carroll in the Swansea midfield or potentially being moulded into a long-term successor for club legend Leon Britton (below).
However, with three other Premier League clubs interested, it appears that Swansea have a challenge on their hands.
