Swansea City could sack Carlos Carvalhal ahead of Sunday’s relegation decider, according to the Sun.
The former Sheffield Wednesday manager’s appointment saw an initial upturn in Swansea’s fortunes, and at one stage appeared to have been enough to preserve their Premier League status.
However, Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Southampton has left the Swans on the brink of relegation, and a win is now required in their season finale against Stoke City at the Liberty Stadium.
Nevertheless, the Welsh side will drop regardless should Huddersfield Town, the team that denied Carvalhal’s Sheffield Wednesday a place in the top flight 12 months ago, avoid defeat in any of their final two fixtures.
And the Sun reports that Swansea are considering their options ahead of the game, which include whether the team would be better off trusting the staff in place before Carvalhal’s arrival – with club legends Leon Britton and Alan Curtis among them.
The newspaper adds that the Portuguese coach, whose team has not won for more than two months, will trigger a one-year contract extension if the Swans stay up.
