Gaitain could become the highest paid player at Swansea City.
Huw Jenkins has made a personal approach to Nicolas Gaitan as he looks to tempt the Atletico Madrid midfielder into joining Swansea City, according to the Sun.
The report claims the Swansea chairman ‘is offering Gaitan £120,000 a week’ to boost his side’s Premier League survival fight – which would make him the Liberty Stadium’s highest paid player.
It adds that the 29-year-old could be allowed to leave Atletico on loan this month, after a permanent deal attracted ‘no takers’.
According to the Sun, Swansea have already been turned down by Gaitan’s clubmate Kevin Gameiro, however, the report adds that ‘the door is still open’ for the Argentine, and Jenkins is ‘refusing to give up’.
Swansea, who climbed to within three points of safety courtesy of Monday’s 1-0 win against Liverpool, have yet to make a singing since hiring Carlos Carvalhal as manager at the end of December.
According to the Daily Mail, Swansea have turned to Jorge Mendes for help on transfers, and Gaitan is understood to have had a prior association with the Portuguese super agent, whose most notable clients include Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho.
