Sunderland are in talks to try and sign Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Sunderland’s talks with Aston Villa over a potential deal for Ross McCormack centre around the prospect of trying to agree a season-long loan.
The Mail reports that the Villans are ready to move the £12 million signing on after just one season with the Championship side, with Steve Bruce leaving the Scotsman out of the squad for their pre-season tour.
Aston Villa’s Ross McCormack
Despite scoring just three times in his first campaign with Villa, Simon Grayson is keen to bring McCormack to the Stadium of Light as he looks to try and lead the Black Cats back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
And the Mail reports that the discussions between the two clubs – which have already begun – are geared towards trying to agree a loan deal for McCormack.
While Villa may perhaps prefer to get McCormack off their books permanently to try and recoup much of the eight-figure fee they paid for him a year ago, a loan deal would perhaps be an ideal move for all parties.
Though Grayson may be confident that he can get the best out of the 30-year-old if a deal is agreed – having worked with McCormack when he was in charge at Leeds – a temporary move ensures that there is a little risk involved in a deal from Sunderland’s perspective if it does not work out.
