Sunderland look almost certain to drop into League One next season.

According to a report in the Sunderland Echo, Lee Cattermole and Lamine Kone will not face a wage cut if Sunderland are relegated.

The Black Cats currently sit second bottom in the Championship table, and are requiring a miracle to stay up.

Sunderland are likely to need to win at least three of their last four matches to stand any chance at surviving.

And contingency plans are already being made, in case they do drop into League One.

Many of Sunderland’s team do face losing a significant proportion of their salaries if Chris Coleman’s side drop into the third tier.

However, Cattermole and Kone will reportedly not lose any of their weekly wage even if Sunderland do drop into League One.

The pair are already two of the club’s highest earners, and they will be two of the best paid players in League One if they do remain at the Stadium of Light following their side’s impending relegation.

In better news for Sunderland, Jack Rodwell will reportedly see his pay-packet reduced by 40% if Coleman’s side drop out of the Championship.
