Jack Baldwin has not made a League One appearance for Jack Ross’s Sunderland this season – is he heading to the League Two Ammies?
Seldom-seen Sunderland defender Jack Baldwin is on his way to ambitious League Two outfit Salford City with the Black Cats accepting a bid from the League Two club, according to The Chronicle.
The writing has been on the wall for Baldwin for a while.
The former Peterborough United captain has not featured in any of The Black Cats’s six League One games so far this season and, despite a stand-out performance against Burnley in last week’s 3-1 EFL Cup win at Turf Moor, he was only rewarded with a place on the bench against his former side on Saturday.
Sunderland manager Jack Ross hailed Baldwin after his star showing against Burnley, describing the 26-year-old centre-back as ‘terrific’, but it seems that he is still on his way out of the Stadium of Light before today’s 5pm deadline.
The Echo claims that nouveau-riche Salford are set to sign Baldwin on loan in what would be another impressive coup for a team who, despite sitting 16th in the League Two table, are not short on ambition or financial backing.
Striker Adam Rooney doubled his wages when he swapped Scottish giants Aberdeen for then non-league Salford last summer, as reported by The Telegraph, while highly-rated midfielder Richie Towell also moved to Moor Lane from top-flight Brighton.
And Baldwin should add further quality and experience to a club with genuine ambitions of yet another promotion.
