The midfielder enjoyed a promising loan spell at Sunderland, and reports suggested that they were hoping to bring him back.
Sunderland’s hopes of bringing Yann M’Vila back to the Stadium of Light during the January transfer window have been dealt a blow as the Shields Gazette reports that his representatives are in talks over a new deal with Rubin Kazan.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a promising loan spell in the Premier League last season, helping the Black Cats pull off another great escape.

But while both parties had hoped to engineer a permanent move over the summer, according to the Shields Gazette, Sunderland decided against meeting Rubin’s £8.5m asking price and seemingly put a plan in place to bring him back at a later stage.
And although the Shields Gazette adds that the holding midfielder has a pre-contract agreement in place with David Moyes’ side, the deal is not binding and thus, he is free to discuss a contract extension with his current club.

In fairness to M’Vila, it would hardly be surprising if he decided that staying put was a better decision than returning to Sunderland.
Moyes’ men are bottom of the table and already eight points adrift of safety so look destined for the second tier. And the Frenchman may have concerns about committing to a club where, by the time he arrives, their situation could be beyond desperate.
