Should Leeds United pay up?

Sunderland will readily sell Liam Bridcutt to Leeds United for £500,000 if an offer is submitted, the Sunderland Echo report.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported last night that Leeds were maintaining their interest in the Scottish international, who joined them on loan for the season last November.

Their interest had been unknown after head coach Steve Evans was let go and replaced by Garry Monk.

The Sunderland Echo report that the Black Cats are keen to get the 27-year-old off their books as they have no plans for him, and would accept an offer of £500,000.

Bridcutt made 23 starts for Leeds last season in midfield in the Championship, plus three appearances in the FA Cup.

Leeds are yet to make an offer, but Sunderland’s demands do not appear unreasonable for a player who has just 12 months remaining on his contract.

One option the Whites have is to play hardball and try to loan him for another season and sign him for free next summer, but this is a risky strategy as another Championship club would surely step in and willingly pay the fee Sunderland are asking, for a player who is proven in the division.
