Sunderland are being linked with a move for Copenhagen striker Federico Santander.
Federico Santander in action against Porto
According to Paraguayan newspaper Diario ABC Color, Sunderland are hoping to sign Copenhagen striker Federico Santander – but a stunning €35m (£31.5m) transfer fee has been suggested.
Copenhagen are in Champions League action this evening as they take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, and scouts are bound to be in attendance, with one player in particular drawing attention.
Federico Santander
Striker Federico Santander hit 14 goals in his first season with Copenhagen last term, having joined the Danish side from Guarani in his native Paraguay in the summer of 2015.
This term, Santander has hit the net four times, and should be called upon to spearhead the Copenhagen attack against Leicester City this evening.
Now though, Paraguayan newspaper Diario ABC Color report that Sunderland are very keen to sign Santander, as David Moyes desperately attempts to add some goals to his side.
General view – Stadium of Light Sunderland
Only two players – Jermain Defoe and Patrick van Aanholt – have found the net for Sunderland this season, and no team has scored fewer Premier League goals than the Black Cats, who sit rock bottom of the table.
Santander, a tall and physical striker with great aerial ability, could work well as a partner for the diminutive Defoe, but the alleged asking price could be a real issue.
Federico Santander
The report claims that Santander would cost a quite ridiculous €35m (£31.5m), which would surely concern Sunderland fans who saw fellow Paraguayans Paulo Da Silva and Cristian Riveros struggle on Wearside.
It seems almost impossible that Sunderland would spend such an outrageous fee on a player currently featuring in Denmark, and whilst there may well be interest in the player, don’t expect to see Sunderland splashing more than £30m on Santander any time soon.
