Could Sunderland be about to step up their efforts to land their first signing of the January transfer window?
A report in The Sun has suggested that Sunderland boss David Moyes will target a new left-back during the final stages of the January window, and may receive a significant boost to his transfer kitty should Patrick van Aanholt leave the club.
The Sun reports that van Aanholt is very much on Crystal Palace’s radar, and they may be willing to spend as much as £12 million to bring him to Selhurst Park after failing to land Carl Jenkinson.

The Sun adds that Moyes is resigned to potentially losing the 26-year-old to Crystal Palace and is ready to go into the market for the first time this month in an attempt to bolster his Black Cats side.

And it appears that Moyes will have some funds to invest on potential new arrivals as The Sun suggests that the Sunderland hierarchy will give the manager £10 million of the money made on van Aanholt to spend on potential new players.
Having been unable to bring anyone in during this window, Moyes will surely be delighted to have that kind of money at his disposal as, spent wisely, it could boost the side’s hopes of pulling off another great escape.
