Sunderland are reportedly set to sign Burton Albion’s Tom Flanagan.

According to the Northern Echo, Sunderland are set to sign Burton Albion defender Tom Flanagan on a free transfer as their fourth new recruit of the summer.
With new owner Stewart Donald looking to spark the Black Cats back into life following successive relegations, Sunderland are undergoing major work ahead of the League One season.

Jack Ross is in as the club’s new manager, replacing Chris Coleman, and he has already brought in three new signings in Jon McLaughlin, Alim Ozturk and Chris Maguire.
Now, Sunderland are expected to make a fourth signing very shortly, with the Northern Echo reporting that a deal for Burton Albion defender Tom Flanagan is on the verge of completion.
It’s noted that Burton need to offload players after their own relegation to League One, and 26-year-old defender Flanagan has been told that he can leave on a free transfer.

Sunderland are now set to swoop, and talks are allegedly set to be finalised and a deal confirmed in the next 24 hours after a move progressed today.
Flanagan, a Northern Ireland international, came up through the ranks with MK Dons before leaving for Burton in 2015, and he will be a valuable member of Ross’ squad given that he can play a right back, centre back and left back.
