Sunderland are already seven points adrift of safety after a terrible start.
A report in the Daily Mirror has claimed that Sunderland will consider selling Jordan Pickford during the January transfer window if it appears that relegation is inevitable by that stage of the season.
The Black Cats have made a terrible start to the campaign. Following their 4-1 defeat at home to Arsenal at the weekend, David Moyes’ men are already seven points off safety having failed to win any of their first 10 games in the Premier League.

And while Sunderland have become experts in pulling themselves away from danger when the situation looked its bleakest in recent years, many supporters would be forgiven for thinking that their luck is about to desert them this season.
The Mirror reports that if the situation is as desperate when the window opens in a couple of months time, Sunderland will consider allowing the likes of Pickford and Lamine Kone to move on to enable them to begin preparing for life in the second tier.
While the club’s fans may be hoping that the academy graduate will look to continue his development at the Stadium of Light, regardless of what division they are playing in, it appears that there will be no shortage of takers for the 22-year-old.
The Sun reported earlier in the month that Everton were keeping an eye on his progress, while, more recently, Manchester City have also registered an interest, according to the Mirror.
And with their current position in the table suggesting that few members of their squad would command significant fees, Pickford’s departure would perhaps be one that would allow the club to invest in a squad that would be ready for the Championship.
