Sunderland are seemingly preparing for the possibility of losing one of their key men.

A report in The Sun has suggested that Sunderland are preparing for the possibility of losing Lamine Kone to West Ham United by considering a move for Ipswich Town defender Adam Webster.

The Black Cats are currently in the relegation zone in the Premier League, and appear to be concerned about losing one of their key men to one of their top flight rivals.

That worry has prompted them to reignite their interest in the 21-year-old, who is doing well in the Championship. The Sun reports that Webster has been on Sunderland’s radar since his spell at Portsmouth, which only came to an end this summer when he completed a switch to Portman Road.

And perhaps after noticing how well he has adapted to life in the second tier so quickly after moving up two divisions, David Moyes appears keen to give him the opportunity to complete the journey to the highest level during the next window.

And Moyes will undoubtedly be hoping that he can replicate the form that he has shown during his time with the Tractor Boys if he does end up moving to the Stadium of Light.

Webster has played in 18 of Ipswich’s 22 league games this term. And while Mick McCarthy’s men are languishing in 15th in the table, they boast the third best defensive record of any team outside the top six so the youngster arguably deserves plenty of credit for how he has played this season.
