Ross McCormack has been heavily linked with a move to Sunderland, but the striker currently expects to remain at Aston Villa this summer.

According to Sky Sports’ live transfer feed (31st August 2017; 09:18 am), Ross McCormack is currently expecting to end the transfer window as an Aston Villa player despite interest from Sunderland.
McCormack has endured a largely torrid time since joining the Villans from Fulham one year ago, scoring just three times in 20 Championship appearances for the side last term and spending the latter half of the campaign out on loan with Nottingham Forest.

Sky Sports reports that McCormack’s former Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is interested in handing the 31-year-old the chance to make a fresh start at the Stadium of Light as he looks to bolster his goalscoring options after an underwhelming start to the new season.

McCormack will be hoping that, if he does stay put, he can use the opportunity to force his way back into Steve Bruce’s plans as Villa also look to bounce back from a disappointing start to the campaign – they currently sit one place higher than Sunderland in the table thanks to their marginally better goal difference.
The former Cardiff City man featured for the final 15 minutes of their League Cup win over Wigan, but is yet to play in the league this season.
With no emergency loan window to offer him a lifeline before January if his situation does not improve at Villa, McCormack may perhaps be more determined to turn his fortunes around with his current club.
But with several hours left before the window does close, it would surely be foolish to rule out the possibility of Sunderland testing Villa’s resolve to keep the Scotsman before the deadline.
