Kevin Nisbet has handed in a transfer request at Hibernian as the reported Sunderland target looks to force through a move to England, as reported by the Daily Record.
While the Edinburgh giants would be loath to lose their star striker midway through the season, the prospect of a massive financial windfall should offset the pain of Nisbet’s potential departure.
The former Dunfermline ace only arrived in a £200,000 deal last summer.
Now, according to the Record, Hibs are demanding a fee in excess of £2.6 million after Nisbet took the Scottish Premiership by storm with 11 goals and four assists in 23 matches.
Birmingham City have failed with a big bid for the Glasgow-born hotshot, with Hibernian boss Jack Ross determined to keep hold of Nisbet until the summer.

But the 23-year-old has sent shockwaves around Easter Road by handing in a transfer request with just a few hours remaining until the window closes.
A source told the Record he has been left frustrated by the way his future has been handled and now feels his future lies away from Hibernian.
Sunderland have shown a keen interest in a striker who has taken his game to a whole new level under ex-Black Cats boss Jack Ross (Scottish Sun).
But it remains to be seen whether the Black Cats are capable of outbidding Birmingham during this period of financial uncertainty.
