Sunderland are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Ben Alnwick.

The Black Cats have endured a pretty miserable season when it comes to goalkeepers this year. The likes of Robbin Ruiter, Jason Steele and Lee Camp have all had a go between the sticks, but none have been particularly convincing during the campaign.

Unsurprisingly, Chris Coleman is hoping to strengthen his options in goal in the summer. And it appears that a face that will be familiar to the Stadium of Light faithful is on his radar.

Good target for Sunderland?
Alnwick has played regularly this term for a Bolton side that have conceded 11 fewer goals than Coleman’s men have, so it would appear to be a decent move considering that he is set to be available on a free transfer.
It seems unlikely, from the outside at least, that a permanent move for Camp will be pursued this summer, but some may have their doubts as to whether he is a significant upgrade on either Ruiter or Steele.
If Sunderland cannot build on their stunning win on Friday and end up getting relegated, offering Alnwick a return may be a very good piece of business, but perhaps some will need to be convinced that he would be a good addition if they manage to book another year in the Championship.
