Sunderland reportedly want to keep Vito Mannone.

After a nightmare against Burnley, Sunderland bounced back with a creditable draw against Liverpool.

Among those fortunate to keep his starting spot was goalkeeper Vito Mannone, who missed an early part of the season through injury.

The performance appears to have done him good, with Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb reporting last night he has been taken off the transfer market.

The report states Sunderland were open to receiving offers for Mannone, but now they have decided he is not for sale.

It also adds that Sunderland had fielded enquiries from Italian teams for the former Arsenal goalkeeper, but see him as important for them moving forwards.

Sunderland showed earlier in the season they can cope without Mannone, with Jordan Pickford emerging as a top option, but he is currently out of action with a knee injury himself and not expected back until February.

It makes sense then that Sunderland are keen to keep Mannone, but if they were not satisfied with him, the currently open transfer window gives them an option to go and buy a replacement.
