Sunderland defender Papy Djilobodji was away on loan last season.

Much was expected of Papy Djilobodji when he joined Sunderland from Chelsea in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £8 million.
The 29-year-old defender had failed to make an impact at Chelsea during his short time at Stamford Bridge, but the Senegal international was very good at Nantes.
Sunderland struggles
However, the defender has not done much at Sunderland either. After making just 18 appearances in the Premier League for the Black Cats during the 2016-17 season, the Senegal international moved to Dijon in League 1 for the 2017-18 campaign.
With Sunderland having been relegated to League One, Djilobodji refused to return to the Black Cats earlier this month, according to The Northern Echo.

Departure?
The same publication has also claimed that Black Cats are still struggling to find a buyer for Djilobodji.
With Sunderland reportedly wanting to offload the former Chelsea defender and the 29-year-old claimed to be not interested in playing for the Black Cats, perhaps a loan deal would be best.
