Sunderland striker Josh Maja is reportedly on Bristol City’s radar and their scouts have been watching the youngster regularly.

According to a report from Bristol Live, Bristol City had scouts in attendance for Sunderland’s draw with Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend, with Josh Maja the player the Robins were looking at.

Maja has enjoyed a stunning season at the Stadium of Light so far. The 19-year-old has scored 11 goals in 20 games in all competitions for Jack Ross’ side and is one short of being the top goalscorer in League One.

His form is unsurprisingly attracting attention from elsewhere. Bristol Live reports that a number of clubs want the young striker, with Lee Johnson sending representatives to their latest game on Saturday after several recent scouting trips.

And Maja may well have bumped himself up City’s January wishlist with his performance. The teenager came on less than 10 minutes into the second-half and provided the home side’s late equaliser.

It was a composed finish from the forward as the ball found its way to him on the edge of the six-yard box. It may not have been one of his most exciting finishes of the season, but it did highlight how he is getting himself into the positions to score on a regular basis.

Bristol Live adds that Maja is out of contract with the Black Cats in the summer, so it could well prove to be an interesting couple of months for those involved in the race for his signature if a question mark continues to linger over his future.
