Sunderland have agreed a deal to sign Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra, according to Talksport.

It is said that Iborra will now head to Wearside for a medical and to put the finishing touches to his £7 million switch, with Sevilla happy to move him on.

The 28-year-old was a constant in the Spanish side’s Europa League domination over the past three campaigns and signed a new five-year contract last summer.

However, new appointment Jorge Sampaoli has overseen an mini-overhaul since his arrival in Andalusia, with a number of midfielders – including Hiroshi Kiyotake, Matias Kranevitter and Ganso – acquired by the Argentine, edging Iborra towards the exit.

The Spaniard, who stands at an imposing 6ft 3ins tall, can play anywhere through the centre of the park and has scored 22 goals in 131 Sevilla appearances.

Sunderland boss David Moyes will be familiar with Iborra from his brief La Liga spell with Real Sociedad.

The Black Cats are yet to strengthen in the former Levante player’s position this summer, despite the departures of Yann Mvila and Liam Bridcutt.
