Sunderland are believed to be interested in signing Aston Villa defender Micah Richards.

According to a report in the Daily Star, Sunderland are still interested in signing Aston Villa defender Micah Richards.
Sunderland’s interest in Richards began when Sam Allardyce was in charge, but the 61-year-old has now left the Stadium of Light to take the England job.

Sunderland have placed David Moyes in charge, but Richards is said to remain a transfer target for the Wearsiders.
Sunderland are believed to be willing to active Villa’s release clause, which stands at £5 million.
The Black Cats are yet to make a signing this summer, and they are known to be wanting to strengthen their defence.
Richards is capable of playing at centre-back or full-back, meaning that he would provide good cover for Moyes’ team.

Richards had a disappointing season at Villa last term, as he failed to show his best form.
The England international defender was off the pace, as Villa slipped to a disappointing relegation, but Moyes is still believed to be interested in offering the former Manchester City man a route back into the Premier League.
