Sunderland boss Jack Ross will be told that promotion is the minimum aim for his side next season by the club’s new owner Mark Campbell, according to the Northern Echo.

Campbell is set to replace Stewart Donald as Sunderland’s majority shareholder, with a takeover bid expected to go through soon.

Ross will be kept on by Campbell at the Stadium of Light, despite the Scottish boss losing the support of some of the fans after Sunderland’s failure to earn promotion last season.

The Black Cats lost in the play off final to Charlton Athletic, in what was a major set back.

Ross has retained his job and has been assured that he won’t be replaced, so he has quickly set about planning for next season at the Stadium of Light.

Campbell is expected to provide Ross with the biggest transfer budget ever seen in League One when he does take over at Sunderland.

However, the time for excuses has gone at Sunderland, and Ross will face the sack unless he guides the Black Cats back to the Championship next year, according to the Northern Echo.
