Burnley are among the sides credited with interest in the Sunderland trialist.
Ruiter had been on trial at Sunderland after leaving FC Utrecht at the end of last season, and his displays appear to have impressed Mackems boss Simon Grayson, who told The Chronicle on Saturday that he was “hopeful” of concluding a deal for the 30-year-old Dutchman.

According to The Daily Mail, Sunderland are preparing to hand Ruiter a two-year deal, as they seek to strengthen in an area depleted by the summer departures of Jordan Pickford and Vito Mannone to Everton and Reading respectively.
Grayson has already signed Jason Steele from Blackburn Rovers since Mannone’s exit, however, the former England Under-21 shot-stopper told The Sunderland Echo last week that he has had ‘nothing promised’ to him in terms of being first choice at the Stadium of Light.
And with Tom Heaton firmly in place as Burnley’s number one, Ruiter would appear far more likely to play regular football at Sunderland.
