Sunderland are on the verge of completing a deal for Middlesbrough midfielder Grant Leadbitter.

Leadbitter has long been linked with a return to Sunderland, where he started his career, and it appears that the Black Cats have finally got their man.
The veteran midfielder’s future at the Riverside came into question with Jon Obi-Mikel signing a contract with Tony Pulis’ side.
Leadbitter had no burning desire to leave Boro, where he was enjoying his football, but he has reportedly made an exception for Sunderland.

A switch back to the Stadium of Light was reportedly the only move which could have tempted Leadbitter, and he has found it too good to turn down.
Leadbitter is now expected to be officially unveiled by Sunderland very soon.
Leadbitter would become Sunderland’s second signing of the January transfer window, following the arrival of Jimmy Dunne earlier this month.
