Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic have rejected three bids from Sunderland for League One specialist Will Grigg.
Sunderland are not giving up the ghost despite failing with three bids to sign Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg, according to the Sunderland Echo.
Jack Ross has made no secret about his desire to add a ‘poacher’ to his squad before the end of the January transfer window and the Northern Ireland international, who has a terrific record in League One, certainly fits the bill.
And, despite having a number of offers turned down, the report claims that Sunderland are set to return with a fourth bid for Grigg in the near future.
The 27-year-old suffered an ankle injury at the weekend but it is not understood to be as serious as first feared, meaning The Black Cats will continue in their attempts to lure him away from Championship strugglers Wigan.
Speaking on Monday, former St Mirren coach Ross confirmed his interest in Grigg after Latics counterpart Paul Cook claimed that Sunderland made a number of offers that had ‘fallen short’.
“I’ve always been reluctant to comment on individual players and I know obviously Paul’s done that at the weekend so it’s made it obvious that we have made a bid for him and he’s a player that we would like to bring to the club,” Ross told the Shields Gazette.
Grigg has averaged over 20 goals in his last four seasons in the third tier of English football and he hit the net 19 times as Wigan won the League One title in May last year.
