Ndong was finally removed from Sunderland’s books in October.

Didier N'Dong warms up during a Sunderland AFC training session at The Academy of Light on January 17, 2018 in Sunderland, England.

Didier Ndong is about to hand Sunderland a windfall of a reported £3.5million as he is closing in on a move to French top-tier side Guingamp – two months after leaving the Stadium of Light.

The 24-year-old midfielder was released by the Black Cats in October, after a string of events that saw Ndong fail to earn a summer move, fail to report to training and owner Stewart Donald claiming he was deliberately devaluing himself.

Finally, Ndong and Sunderland came to an agreement in October to cancel his contract – which saw his £13.6million (BBC Sport) move become a failure. He managed just 54 appearances in all competitions.

Now, Gabonese outlet iSport claim French Ligue 1 side Guingamp are closing in on a move to land the free agent midfielder, who also played for Watford on loan during his short spell in England.

Guingamp sit bottom of France’s top tier on 11 points, with just two wins from 18 league games and are desperate to bring in new players to help them push off from 20th place in Ligue 1.

Ndong could be their first port of call ahead of the January transfer window, and that could see Sunderland net a healthy £3.5million according to the Northern Echo.

The report claims that if Ndong finds a new club before October 4 2019, they will be entitled to £3.5million compensation – as Ndong has left the club on a free rather than moving for a transfer fee. Now, that fee could be imminent if Ndong joins Guingamp.
