Sunderland have joined their Championship rivals in the race to sign Leicester City midfielder Andy King.
King has been something of a peripheral figure for the Foxes this season. He has started just five times in the Premier League this term, making a further six appearances from the bench for Claude Puel’s side.
The Mail reports that Leicester are ready to consider loaning the 29-year-old out for the rest of the season, and that has alerted a couple of Championship sides.
The Northern Echo reported earlier on Tuesday that Boro are keen on signing King – who has spent his entire professional career with Leicester and was part of the title-winning side in 2016 – and now the Daily Mail are reporting on their live transfer feed (30th January 2018; 13:35) that Chris Coleman would like to bring King to the Stadium of Light for the rest of the season.
Given King’s experience, he would arguably be an excellent addition to the Black Cats’ squad for the coming months as they look to get themselves out of trouble in the Championship. Whether he would prefer to join Sunderland over Middlesbrough remains to be seen.
Sunderland take on Birmingham at St Andrew’s on Tuesday knowing that whoever wins the game will leap out of the bottom three and surely strike a major psychological blow heading into February.
