Nonetheless, a list of targets has been drawn up and according to the Telegraph Micah Richards is among them.
They are poised to activate his release clause at Villa Park, which the Telegraph recently revealed stands at £5 million, and offer him a return to the Premier League.
Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce
However, any potential move for the Villa man is being held up by the uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Sam Allardyce.
He is currently the bookmakers favourite to take the England job after being approached about the role by the Football Association.
Should he stay then an approach for Richards will be on the cards and it will be interesting to see whether he decides to depart or stick with the club as they look to bounce back in the Championship next season.
