Sunderland are said to be wanting to sign Jordan Hugill from Preston North End this summer.

According to a report in the Northern Echo, Sunderland are said to be willing to offer Jordan Hugill a significant pay rise to sign him from Preston North End.

Simon Grayson has made Hugill one of his top targets, after taking the Sunderland job.

Grayson got the best out of Hugill at Preston, and believes the striker can make a huge impact on Wearside.

The Black Cats face big competition for the powerful forward’s signature, with Birmingham City also interested.

And Sunderland are hoping that they can convince Hugill to move to the Stadium of Light by offering him a significant pay rise.

Hugill is not a particularly high earner for Championship standards, and Sunderland believe they can boost his pay packet.

Grayson is yet to make an addition at Sunderland, but is eager to strengthen his squad in the near future.

Hugill scored 12 goals and claimed two assists in the Championship for Preston last term.
