Sunderland are on the verge of signing Sheffield United striker Daniel Jebbison on loan just months after Premier League interest.
That’s according to the Northern Echo, who claim that Sunderland have held talks over a deal for Jebbison and the move now looks very advanced.
Jebbison allegedly travelled up to the North East on Friday in order to visit the Stadium of Light and watch the pre-season win over Hull City.
Striker Ross Stewart and Will Grigg may have scored in that game, but Lee Johnson wants more firepower with Charlie Wyke gone, and it’s Jebbison who could arrive.
The 18-year-old hitman is a big presence at 6ft 3in tall, and he actually scored on his Premier League debut with a goal against Everton in May.
Born in Canada, Jebbison has played for England’s Under-18’s and looks set for a big future – especially given the major interest in his signature.
Yorkshire Live noted in May that Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich were all keen on signing Jebbison.
It’s Sunderland who will secure him on loan though, less than a year since Jebbison headed for a non-league loan with Chorley.
The hope is that Jebbison can fire the Sunderland to promotion this season before heading back to Sheffield United to continue his development, and Black Cats fans should be excited to see him in action.
