Sunderland and Hull City considering making move for the Birmingham City midfielder.
The Dutch defensive midfielder joined Birmingham in 2015 from Groningen, and has been ever present for the club. This season he has made 18 Championship appearances, and has one assist to his name.
He will be out of contract at Birmingham in the summer, and his long-term future at the club remains in doubt.
Kieftenbeld nearly joined Championship rivals Derby on deadline day in August but the deal did not materialise due to red tape.
He has played key roles for Birmingham this season, helping Steve Cotterill’s struggling side win back to back matches.
The midfield in one area that emphasises the imbalance of the Sunderland squad. The Black Cats aren’t short of bodies, and yet central midfield is probably one area where Chris Coleman needs to add players in January.
Lee Cattermole, Jonny Williams, and Darron Gibson are all out injured, while Paddy McNair is still working his way back to full fitness after long-term injury problems.
Jack Rodwell has struggled to make a strong impact, and at this moment Coleman is only relying on George Honeyman and Lynden Gooch.
While Sunderland do not have enough money to spend, Coleman will have to make shrewd signings, and Kieftenbeld could be a decent option.
