The former Magpie could soon be back in the north east with Newcastle’s arch rivals Sunderland, despite an offer from Crystal Palace, a report claims.

The Daily Mail reports that Sunderland have opened talks with Inter Milan regarding the transfer of former Newcastle United defender Davide Santon.
Crystal Palace are also said to have bid for Santon, though the Italian full-back believes he would have greater first team opportunities at the Stadium of Light, according to the Mail.
He also spent the best part of four years in England’s north east, where his partner Chloe reportedly hails from.

Sunderland, who won’t face Newcastle next season having survived the drop at the Magpies’ expense, are known to be in the market for a new right-back this summer.
The report claims the Black Cats have also been in talks over a fresh move for Tottenham Hotspur’s DeAndre Yedlin, who impressed in the role while on loan in Wearside last season.

However, Mackems boss Sam Allardyce, who has allegedly been sounded out by the FA about succeeding Roy Hodgson as England manager (Sun), is said to have a limited budget available.
And Santon’s ability to operate in both full-back positions equally well, could nudge him ahead on the club’s list of targets.
