Sunderland could complete the signing of another free-agent with Bailey Wright expected to join Aiden O’Brien at the Stadium of Light over the next few days, according to the Northern Echo.
Everyone on Wearside might have feared that they’d never escape aLeague One nightmare when the global health crisis reared it’s ugly head in March, robbing the Black Cats of a play-off challenge as well as much of their summer budget.
But, since the transfer window swung open earlier this month, Sunderland have set about reminding everyone that you don’t need money to pull off the odd inspired signing.
In former Millwall striker O’Brien, Phil Parkinson now has an adaptable and proven League One forward in his ranks.
The Republic of Ireland international scored 23 goals in two seasons at third-tier level between 2015 and 2017, firing Millwall to promotion along the way.
And, according to reports in the north east, Sunderland will follow up O’Brien with another free-agent signing.

Wright’s loan spell at the Stadium of Light never really got going thanks to a combination of injuries and an ongoing global crisis.
But, whenever the Australian was available, he looked head and shoulders above the rest.
Wright, who was happy and settled on Wearside, only made five appearances for Sunderland – but the Black Cats won all but one of those, keeping four clean sheets to boot.
The former Preston defender has since been released by Bristol City and can be snapped up permanently for absolutely nothing.
