According to the Daily Mirror, Sunderland have offered a contract to trialist Joleon Lescott as David Moyes looks to strengthen his squad.
The Black Cats have so far been unable to bring in any new signings this month, with Moyes working on a tight budget; not ideal when in a relegation battle.

As has often been the case in recent years, Sunderland’s defence has been found wanting this term, and they were beaten 2-0 at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.
With Lamine Kone at the Africa Cup of Nations and Papy Djilobodji facing action after an altercation with Darren Fletcher over the weekend, Moyes desperately needs defensive reinforcements – and Moyes appears keen to bring in one of his former players.

The Mirror report that free agent centre back Joleon Lescott has been training with Sunderland, and Moyes has offered him a short-term deal in a bid to aid the Sunderland defence.
Lescott, 34, is a free agent having been released by AEK Athens in November, and he’s set for a Premier League return having suffered relegation with Aston Villa at the end of last season.
The former England international worked with Moyes for three years having joined Everton in 2006, and his performances under the now-Sunderland boss earned Lescott a huge move to Manchester City in 2009.
Moyes swooped to sign two of his ex-Everton players on free transfers in 2016 as Steven Pienaar and Victor Anichebe reunited with the Scot, and Lescott is now in line to do the same on a deal until the end of the season.
