Report: Sunderland no closer to being sold, despite reports suggesting sale could occur

Sunderland look set to drop into League One, which could decrease the value of the club even further.

According to a report in the Sunderland Echo, reports suggesting that William O’Brien could takeover at Sunderland are incorrect.

Ellis Short has made no secret of his desire to sell the Black Cats, but no takeover is close as things stand.

Reports over the weekend had suggested that O’Brien was interested in buying the Wearsiders, which sparked some hope that a takeover at the Stadium of Light could be close.

However, the Sunderland Echo claim that those suggestions are incorrect.

The local paper also claim that Niall Quinn will not be buying Sunderland at any point in the near future.

It leaves Short back at square one, as he looks to find a buyer for the football club.

Short wants to step aside, after a disastrous spell under his leadership recently.

Sunderland look set to be relegated into League One this season, with Chris Coleman’s side currently sat seven points adrift of safety, with just five games remaining.
