Sunderland are hopeful of bringing Preston North End boss Simon Grayson to the Stadium of Light.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Sunderland have made Preston North End boss Simon Grayson their first choice as new manager.
Sunderland had attempted to bring in Derek McInnes from Aberdeen, but he decided to turn them down.
That was a major set back for Sunderland, who didn’t have a contingency plan in place.
Sunderland have been force to reassess their options, and apparently feel that Grayson is now the best choice available to them.
Grayson has guided Preston from League One into the Championship, and made them a competitive team in the second tier – despite having a limited budget.
Sunderland have also considered the likes of Nigel Pearson, but feel that Grayson would make a better option.
Sunderland are desperate to return to the Premier League at the first attempt, but realise that there is a lot of work to be done if they are to get promoted swiftly.
Sunderland begin pre-season training next week, and are hopeful of having a new manager in place by then.
