Report: Sunderland made Kieffer Moore inquiry earlier this month

Sunderland were interested in snapping up the Barnsley striker, but Will Grigg now is Jack Ross’ first choice.

According to the Northern Echo, Sunderland have made contact with Barnsley over Kieffer Moore, but they are unlikely to take their interest any further.

Sunderland inquired over Moore at the start of the transfer window, but were not keen to match Barnsley’s valuation of the target-man.

Instead, Jack Ross’ side are set to push for Will Grigg, as they aim to bolster their attacking ranks before the end of the month.

Sunderland have been negotiating with Wigan Athletic for some time over Grigg, with the two sides struggling to find an acceptable price for the finisher.

Sunderland are now running out of time to get a deal agree for Grigg, but he remains their first choice target, despite initial interest in Moore.

If Sunderland could have got Moore he could have been a good addition to their squad, and the transfer would also have weakened one of their promotion rivals.

Barnsley are right in the thick of the battle for a top two spot, with Moore scoring 15 goals in 27 appearances for the Tykes.
