Sunderland have been linked with a last ditch move for Aston Villa winger Charles N’Zogbia.
N’Zogbia is out of favour at Villa, but there is under an hour until the transfer deadline passes, and little time to complete a deal.
The Mail’s live transfer blog reported at 10.12pm: “There is talk of Sunderland making a late approach for former Newcastle winger Charles N’Zogbia, now on the fringes at Aston Villa.
“The Black Cats, however, are playing down the link, but they do have a little room for manoeuvre following the exit of high-earner Steven Fletcher on loan to Marseille.”
Both sides are battling relegation and it would be a surprise to see Aston Villa let the Frenchmand depart to sign with their competitors.
The 29-year-old has never really settled at Villa since signing several seasons ago, and this season has played only 41 minutes of Premier League football through two substitute appearances.
It is a big backwards step from last season, where he played in 27 Premier League games. The Times reported last week that N’Zogbia is determined to see out his contract and leave Villa for free in the summer.
N’Zogbia was one of Sir Bobby Robson’s last signings at Newcastle United, signing for the club as a teenager.
