Sunderland are looking for a new manager following the resignation of David Moyes.

As the hunt for the new Sunderland manager goes on following the resignation of David Moyes, one option has come from the left field to now be joint favourite.
That man is certainly popular at the Stadium of Light having spent six years with the club, scoring 134 goals in 239 appearances. That man is of course Kevin Phillips.
The Sunderland Echo reports that Phillips is now joint favourite to succeed Moyes alongside his former boss at Derby County, Nigel Pearson.
The ex-striker was also on the coaching staff at Leicester City when Pearson was in charge and has remained with Derby under Steve McClaren and now Gary Rowett following Pearson’s sacking last October.

While a popular figure on Wearside, Phillips has no managerial experience as yet and would certainly represent the riskier choice.
However, after a manager in Moyes who was extremely unpopular with the fans perhaps it would be just the boost that is needed to bring some good will back to the club following their relegation from the Premier League.
