According to The Northern Echo, Sunderland have submitted a new bid for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke – and want an answer within the next 24 hours.
The Black Cats have been busy recruiting for new manager Jack Ross, as Jon McLaughlin, Tom Flanagan, Glenn Loovens, Alim Ozturk, Reece James, Dylan McGeouch and Chris Maguire have all arrived so far.
Sunderland remain in the market for additions and desperately need strikers, with Ross lacking an experienced striker or two ahead of the new League One season as Sunderland chase promotion back to the Championship.
Sunderland’s top target has been Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke, and The Northern Echo now report that a new bid of £1million has ben submitted for the centre forward.
It’s claimed that Sunderland’s £600,000 bid for Wyke has been rejected, meaning their new seven-figure bid has been lodged in an attempt to secure his signature, and want a response from their League One rivals in the next 24 hours.
Wyke, 25, has been impressing for Bradford since his January 2017 move from Carlisle United, scoring 23 goals in 62 games for the Bantams in an impressive stint with the club.
The Middlesbrough-born forward is thought to want a return to the North East, and won’t sign a new contract with Bradford as he wants to go, and has just 12 months left on his deal.
Landing a proven League One striker would be a major boost for Sunderland ahead of the new season, whilst his North East roots would stand him in good stead with Black Cats fans.
