Sunderland are said to be keen to add Wigan Athletic’s Will Grigg to Jack Ross’ squad at the Stadium of Light.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Sunderland have launched a £250,000 bid for Will Grigg of Wigan Athletic.

Sunderland were first thought to be chasing Grigg on a loan deal, but it seems that they are now trying to buy him permanently.

Grigg has a prolific record at League One level, and he could be the man to fire Sunderland to promotion if he was to join.

The Northern Irish international has struggled for game at Wigan this term, meaning a sale could be possible, with Jack Ross’ side now stepping up their chase.

Sunderland are thought to want at least one forward to join this month, as Ross looks to strengthen his squad.

Ross has made no secret of his desire to make minor alterations to Sunderland’s team, as they push for promotion.

The Black Cats are currently in third place in the League One table, but they do have games in hand over the two teams ahead of them, as they look to seal an automatic promotion spot.
