League One Sunderland are reportedly battling Championship duo Millwall and Queens Park Rangers for Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis.

Sunderland want to sign Doncaster Rovers talisman John Marquis, according to the Northern Echo, though Championship duo Queens Park Rangers and Millwall are also keen to sign the prolific striker.
Sunderland endured a heartbreaking end to the 2018/19 campaign, losing to Charlton Athletic in the League One play-off final just two months after suffering a penalty shootout defeat to Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy.
The January departure of top scorer Josh Maja cost The Black Cats dear and, with Will Grigg struggling to justify his hefty price tag, Jack Ross’s side are expected to go all out for a new number nine.
And the Northern Echo reports that Ross is a huge fan of Marquis.
The report adds that Sunderland tried and failed to sign Marquis in January though the London-born forward, who scored 26 goals last season, was prevented from moving to Wearside by current employers Doncaster Rovers.

The 27-year-old had shown an interest in joining Sunderland, however, and could be keen again with the Black Cats renewing their interest. Though it remains to be seen whether the lure of Championship football will prove too strong.
Mark Warburton wants him at QPR while Millwall are keen to re-sign a player who scored five league goals for them between 2009 and 2016. QPR are apparently lining up a bid.
