Sunderland have already been linked with one Bolton Wanderers player of late.
Sunderland are being linked with a second Bolton Wanderers player.
Having already been credited with interest in Bolton striker Gary Madine, Sunderland are now on the trail of Wanderers midfielder Josh Vela, the Daily Mail reports (live blog entry 14:13).
Vela is said to have caught the eye of Championship sides Derby County, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday this season, along with Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion.
But according to the Daily Mail, Sunderland – who are without a number of central midfielders through injury – have joined those clubs in showing an interest in the 24-year-old, who it is claimed could be sold by Bolton as they look to raise much-needed funds.
Vela began his career at the Macron Stadium, where his academy displays are said to have piqued Liverpool’s attention.
The Salford-born player has appeared in 15 Championship games since his return from injury last October, and been on the losing side in just four of those. Bolton – who are now three points better off than bottom club Sunderland in 20th position – had failed to win in their previous 11 attempts.
