Sunderland have been linked with Shrewsbury Town duo Jon Nolan and Aristote Nsiala in the summer transfer window.
Jon Nolan’s performances this season have reportedly caught the eyes of a number of clubs, including Leeds United, and now Sunderland are claimed to have joined the Elland Road outfit in the race for Shrewsbury Town midfielder.
The Mirror (print edition, page 47, March 19, 2018) claimed of Championship trio Leeds, Norwich City and Sheffield United’s interest in Nolan (click here to read more), and now The Shropshire Star has reported that Sunderland want the 25-year-old midfielder as well.
It has been reported that Sunderland manager Chris Coleman has been impressed with the performances of the former Chesterfield star this season.
The report has also claimed that Coleman was at Montgomery Waters Meadow to watch Shrewsbury in action against AFC Wimbledon last Saturday.
The Shropshire Star has reported that Ipswich Town attended the match as well, and has also claimed that Sunderland are interested in signing 26-year-old Shrewsbury star Aristote Nsiala, who can operate as a central defender or as a right-back.
Planning for League One?
Shrewsbury are at the top of League One at the moment and could earn automatic promotion to the Championship at the end of the season.
Neither Nolan nor Nsiala is proven in the Championship, and with Sunderland struggling for survival in the second tier of English football, perhaps their (reported) interest in the duo is an indication that they are planning for life in League One next season.
