Sunderland are in talks to sign Leeds United youngster Niall Huggins, potentially beating Blackburn Rovers to his signature.
That’s according to The Northern Echo, who claim that Leeds officials are keen to send Huggins out on loan for regular first-team action.
The 20-year-old isn’t in Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team plans for this season, but there appears to be some hope that he could be in the future.
Sunderland have already landed one left back on loan in Tottenham Hotspur’s Dennis Cirkin, but they still want another one.
That’s where Huggins could come in, offering competition for places on the left hand of Lee Johnson’s defence.
The Welshman did make his Premier League debut last season, coming on as a substitute for Ezgjan Alioski against Arsenal in February.

Marcelo Bielsa admitted he was ‘unfair’ on Huggins by expecting him to help salvage the game for Leeds, but he still turned in a decent performance.
The Lancashire Telegraph note that Blackburn Rovers want him too, so Sunderland could pull off something of a coup by beating a Championship team to a deal for Huggins.
