Sunderland are reportedly chasing a late deal for Sam Winnall.

According to the Shields Gazette, Sunderland are in talks with Sheffield Wednesday about a last-gasp deal for striker Sam Winnall.
The Black Cats are desperately pursuing strikers before tonight’s transfer deadline, with two forwards needed really following Josh Maja’s move to Bordeaux.
Incredibly, Sunderland have failed to land six of their striker targets. The Chronicle report that moves for Will Grigg, Josh Marquis, Matty Taylor, Josh Koroma, Freddie Ladapo and Sam Surridge have all failed.
That leaves Sunderland scrambling for at least one new striker before the window shuts, and the Shields Gazette now claim that Sam Winnall is on the Black Cats’ radar.
Winnall, 28, is free to move out on loan under new Wednesday boss Steve Bruce, and it’s claimed that Sunderland are now in talks about a deal to lure him to the Stadium of Light.
Winnall was a League One sensation in the 2015-16 season, hitting 21 goals in 43 games for Barnsley having previously excelled with Scunthorpe United.

After scoring 48 goals in 115 games for the Tykes, Winnall moved on to Sheffield Wednesday in January 2017, where has scored just four times in 22 games.
He did though score six goals in 18 games on loan at Derby last season, and if Sunderland can pull off this deal, it would be a hugely promising one for Jack Ross and co.
