Sunderland are hoping to sign Aiden McGeady before the end of this week.
Sunderland are hoping to secure their first major signing of the summer within this week, after The Northern Echo claimed that they are closing in on Aiden McGeady.
McGeady, 31, joined Everton in 2014 and has entered the final year of his present deal.
He spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End, and is not in the first team plans of the Everton manager, Ronald Koeman.

The report claims that Koeman is keen to sell the player, with Sunderland leading the race for his signature.
Simon Grayson, the new manager, who has previously worked with McGeady, is hoping to push through a deal before the end of this week.
Sunderland chief executive, Martin Bain, has already spoken to Everton officials about securing a potential deal for the winger.
The Black Cats are looking to complete the deal for around £2 million. Everton initially hoped for a higher price, but the report claims a compromise should be achievable.
Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough have also shown an interest in the player, but the Republic of Ireland international (90 caps for country) is keen to be reunited with Grayson at the Stadium of Light.
