Sunderland are reportedly hoping to bring an end to the speculation concerning goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (7/7; page 61), Sunderland want to agree a new three-year contract with Jon McLaughlin amid speculation linking the goalkeeper with a move away from the Stadium of Light this summer.
McLaughlin is attracting attention after a brilliant first season with the Black Cats. The Sun on Sunday (30/6; page 59) suggested that the League One side wanted £5 million for the stopper with Millwall eyeing a £1 million move.
But while their asking price appears to have largely ruled a move out at this stage, Sunderland plan to make a further statement of intent as they reportedly look to convince the 31-year-old to stay as part of Jack Ross’ men.
The Sun on Sunday (7/7; page 61) reports that the Black Cats want to agree a new three-year deal with the former Hearts ace.

McLaughlin proved to be an inspired signing for Sunderland, particularly as he came on a free transfer. And it is no surprise that he is the kind of player that Ross wants to hold onto as the club look to try and get promoted out of League One at the second time of asking.
Sunderland have made a quiet start to the summer transfer window. But, even though he would obviously not be a new signing, getting McLaughlin tied down to a new contract would certainly be a great statement of intent with clubs at a higher level circling.
